Passive Fire Protection
Passive fire protection (PFP) is a crucial part of a building's fire safety strategy. Unlike active fire protection systems, such as sprinklers, which require activation, PFP works behind the scenes to slow or prevent the spread of fire and smoke. PFP systems use fire-resistant materials and structures to contain a fire within a specific area, allowing occupants more time to evacuate and reducing damage to the building. This is achieved through: 1)Fire-resistant walls, floors, and doors that compartmentalize a building. 2) Fire curtains and dampers that block fire and smoke from spreading. 3) Intumescent coatings that expand when exposed to heat, protecting structural elements.
